While working together in Australia, friends Melissa and Vernese often found themselves talking about beauty, from ingredients and formulations to the different skincare philosophies found around the world.

Vernese had long admired Korean skincare for its thoughtful approach to formulation. Later, after moving to Japan, she discovered a different perspective: one centred on simplicity, consistency and respect for the skin’s natural balance.

Melissa experienced skincare from another point of view. Living in Australia, many of the products they discussed were not always easy to find, while increasingly complicated routines often felt unrealistic for everyday life.

Together, they began asking a simple question:

What would skincare look like if it brought together Korean innovation with the considered simplicity of Japanese beauty?

That question became MAKKO.
